Become a Support Worker
Now you know what we offer, here is more detail on what your day-to-day job could involve.
What will a typical day look like?
As a support worker your daily tasks will be focused on providing in-home and community support.
Depending on your clients’ needs these could include cleaning, cooking, bathing, dressing, and other personal care tasks. You will also play an important part in their social life, interacting, chatting and being a companion – which is a great boost to their mental health and wellbeing. Many will also rely on you to help them get to appointments and community activities in your car.
You could also have the responsibility for monitoring a client’s progress, reporting any concerns or changes and documenting accurate and relevant information in their file.
What this role requires
Screening and reference checks are all part of our sign-up process. These help to keep everyone in our community safe, and you can’t work until these are all submitted and verified. There are also other requirements you need to know about:
- You must have or be willing to obtain a Police Check, Working With Children Check (WWCC), NDIS Workers Check and First Aid Certificate
- Proof of identity (100 points)
- Many roles will also require you own, or have access to a registered and insured car, to transport clients to medical appointments and social activities in the community.
- You need to be willing to travel between client homes throughout your shift
- If you are working with clients that have more complex needs such as clients funded by the NDIS/ICare/HCP, you will need a Cert III in Individual Support, Aged Care, Disability or Community Care.
