She started working as a Support Star at Alliance Community in June 2019. Tamara has come across the opportunity to work in the disability support sector through Facebook. She registered for the course and the rest is history.
She is grateful to have found Alliance Community and working as a Support Star has taught her how to make a difference in her child’s life. Tamara’s son was born with autism and suffers from chromosome disease. She learned new ways to assist him with his daily activities.
Tamara’s passion in life is simple – she wants to help people. “I want to make the everyday life for those who require support simpler, more practical and more enjoyable.” She enjoys meeting different clients, doing various support work, and going to different places.
Despite some challenging days, Tamara says the good days always overrides them. “I’ve seen my fair share of challenging times but the smiles and seeing the happiness in the eyes of my clients is priceless. I know I make a real difference to their lives. It's an amazing feeling for me.”
A highlight of being a Support Star is knowing that she can give her clients hope and seeing them smile makes her day. “Providing hope, happiness to someone else’s life makes a big difference. Also, you get to go home each day or night knowing that somebody’s day was better because of you.”
Her advice to anyone who wants to be a Support Star is to go for it. “There is no better than the feeling of knowing you are doing some good in the community. You are making a positive difference. You will be improving the quality of life for both the client and their loved ones during good and less good times. The learning never stops.”
