The Alliance Community team across ACT and SA celebrated International Women’s Day with a morning tea, inviting clients to join us in honoring this special occasion. As part of the celebration, we spoke with one of our dedicated support workers, Sarah who works in the SA branch for Alliance Community.

Meet Sarah from Adelaide
We asked Sarah a few questions to inspire and empower women entering the support and disability sector.
Q: What changes would you like to see in the support work field to further empower women and promote gender equality?
A: I’d like to see women recognised as both capable and strong, while also ensuring their distinct needs and abilities are acknowledged.
Q: As a woman in this field, what do you think is the unique contribution that women bring to support work?
A: As a woman in the support work field, I believe I bring a uniquely maternal energy, which helps me be a more compassionate and gentle carer.
Q: Have you ever faced challenges or biases in your role simply because of your gender?
A: Personally, I have never experienced gender-specific bias as a support worker. I strive to demonstrate my ability to complete all tasks with confidence and humility. If I ever need help or clarification, I seek support from my amazingly supportive team at Alliance Community!
