To help celebrate the launch, beloved Australian comedian, novelist and playwright Tim Ferguson was invited as a guest speaker for the event. Mr Ferguson shared his own lived experience with multiple sclerosis (MS) over the past thirty years, and discussed his strong advocacy for quality community care.
The event highlighted Alliance Community’s commitment to delivering quality services that empowers clients to control their support needs and live the life they want, as well as the innovative approach that we take to grow the aged care and disability support workforce.
“With South Australia experiencing such a rapid growth in its older population, as well as with the introduction of the NDIS, the demand for aged care and disability support services within the region is obviously increasing” said David Stewart, Director of Alliance Community.
“But at the same time we are facing an increasing skills shortage, especially in younger workers entering the industry.“
To address the skills shortage, Alliance Community has been running a program of innovative activity on the Eastern seaboard, designed to raise awareness of the career opportunities available and to attract new workers to the industry. This commitment to growing the workforce is one part of Alliance’s ‘whole of community’ approach to supporting the industry and it’s clients.
Through its dedicated Disability Inclusion Officer, the organisation also runs an education program to help businesses make their organisation accessible to customers and potential employees living with disability.
Partnering to develop skills
Alliance Community also has strong partnerships with some of the most innovative skills organisations in Australia, including Skillsroad.com.au and Apprenticeship Support Australia (ASA), each of which aim to grow and develop our national workforce with skilled professionals and jobseekers, particularly among Australia’s youth.
“Making sure Australia has enough community support workers is a national issue, and we know that our innovative recruitment and training techniques will help address both current and future labour demands, whilst also enabling the delivery of premium community support. We’ve been doing this very successfully in other parts of Australia, so we are thrilled to be launching the activity in Adelaide now” said Mr Stewart.
