On Saturday 30 March 2019, Alliance Community launched its sponsorship with the Mackay Machines Wheelchair Basketball team. True to Alliance Community’s values, Mackay Machines encourages and empowers individuals living with a disability to ‘live the life they want’.
“It was such an exciting weekend, to see the comradery between the teams yet the intense passion for the game and the competition on the court. The game is fast paced and has you sitting on the edge of your seat,” said Cat Purcell, Care Coordinator & Business Development Officer from Alliance Community Mackay.
“It’s important to Alliance Community to support local initiatives that focus on supporting individuals to live the life they want and to get involved in their community,” commented Sarah Leggott, QLD & NT Operations Manager for Alliance Community while presenting at the event.
“The sense of value generated from inclusiveness and participation is apparent and has such positive wellbeing outcomes for the team members involved,” added Sarah.
Mackay Machines, part of the Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association, provides a wheelchair basketball program that gives players the opportunity to meet new people, develop skills and get fit. By honing skills and abilities individuals are able to build confidence, be part of a team in a social environment, develop coordination, decrease stress and improve overall quality of life.
The program also supplies a pathway for players to progress from local competitions through to regional, state, national and international levels; some having a goal to represent Australia in the Paralympics.
Congratulations to the Mackay Machines on a great weekend. Alliance Community look forward to supporting the Mackay Machines team in action at future tournaments.
